A "positive" or "abnormal" result usually means that there are some changes in the cells of your cervix or high risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) is detected in your cervical specimen. Sometimes, the result could be false positive which means the test may wrongly give abnormal result from a normal cervix.

Follow up investigations by colposcopy with biopsy may be needed if the result is positive or abnormal.
